Henry + Paige said they were up for an outdoor adventure but what they got was a littleeee more adventure than anticipated. You’ll just have to keep reading for the whole story. 😉
Paige had mentioned she’d love to have some pictures by the Pacific Ocean to document their time stationed in Washington. We settled on a Ruby Beach Engagement shoot. When I say settled, we we’re definitely NOT settling for those of you not familiar with this painstakingly beautiful beach. Moving to another state, you run across some subtle differences here and there and then, you run across things that are the polar opposite of what you’ve known to be true your whole life. In Florida as photographers, we check on the weather, the location’s operational times, the sunset time and that’s pretty much all there is to worry about when planning a photoshoot’s time and location. In Washington, photographer’s have to check the weather, road conditions, seasonal road and park closures, operating hours, fairy schedules, tide schedules, sunset times, tire chains, crazy parking passes, and the list continues to go on. You can prepare and plan as much as possible, but (and maybe this is just me…) you’re never really 100% sure things will flow flawlessly.
Something that we hadn’t fully anticipated was the lack of gas stations along Washington’s back roads. With 40 miles left in their tank, Henry + Paige let us know they needed to pull over at the next station. We ended up not finding one for 75 miles. They warn you about these things when you’re driving cross-country through desert states but Washington really threw us a curve ball. Once we finally found one after after leaving Henry and the car behind (with no phone service I might add), the gas station didn’t have any attendants working and we had to search for something to use as a gas can. Now Dad if your reading this, I know what you’re thinking. You gave me an emergency car kit with a collapsable gas can but, that one may have acquired holes after my last good samaritan duties. As you can imagine, Raven was extra excited to discover that out.
We ended up running into a small hotel that let us borrow one and still made it to the beach with a little time to shoot. We couldn’t help but make a joke of the whole scenario so what good photographer wouldn’t pull out at least their phone to capture Paige and Raven filling up a gas can? Happenings out of the ordinary always leave us with the best stories and friendships. So Henry + Paige, thanks for sticking around after all was said and done and welcome to the MMP Family. I can not wait to travel with you for your October wedding!
Emptying out the can so they can refill it with fancy gas. 😉

Welcome to the blog! I’m a small-town Florida girl and Army wife relocated to the Seattle Suburbs, documenting love from one coast to the other. I live for a good PNW mountain breeze, sweat pants, and local eats. Let's be friends!
